Hello everyone, today we are going to be chatting about lemon tekking for all of the dried magic mushroom lovers out there. You could be looking forward to your first trip ever and want to know some quick tips or you could be an experienced tripster and want to shake things up.
Either way, this is the spot to be! Instead of listening to the tall tales of your best friend’s weird uncle or your older brother’s friend, we are here to talk about some real techniques that could enhance your mushroom trip.
Lemon Tek is supposed to help break down the cell walls of mushrooms before eating them. By doing this the come-up from the mushrooms is much shorter and most people have reported the nausea is significantly less. Before getting into the suggested science behind Lemon Tek we will just go over the basics. If you’re anything like me, learning the science first would just confuse and intimidate me more. For starters, you’re going to need a grinder. This could be a coffee grinder or a cannabis grinder. Perhaps you even have some kind of grinder I am not even aware of. Anyways, once you grind up the mushrooms you are going to want fresh lemons or limes.
After squeezing out all of the juice you can muster, mix the ground mushrooms in with it. Allow this concoction to soak for about 15 to 20 minutes. You will want to stir it about every five minutes so the mushrooms aren’t simply sinking to the bottom or floating to the top. After the allotted time, drink the mixture like a shot. Congratulations you have officially begun your lemon tekking journey!
How does lemon tek work?
As promised we will get into the scientific theories and suggestions as to the point of lemon tekking your mushrooms. I say scientific theories and suggestions because like most psychedelics, mushrooms haven’t been fully researched or understood at the professional level. However, many entrepreneurs like yourself have done their fair share of research and experimenting. As I said above the citrus juice can break down the outer walls of mushrooms and allow an easier come up. What does that mean? Well, we will get into it.
Your stomach has its own kind of acid that allows it to break down the food we eat, and this acidity level falls between 1.5 to 3.5 pH. Mushrooms have a thicker outer layer that can take a long time to break down in your stomach. If you’re an experienced tripster then you know the typical come-up time can take up to 90 minutes. On top of this, your stomach can feel a bit queasy, or if you’re like me you have to throw up every time because your stomach cannot handle it.
The lemons or limes, however, help to break down the mushrooms before you ingest them. Lemons have an acidity level of 2-2.6pH. Due to their natural acidity, the lemons can work by breaking down the walls of the mushrooms so your stomach won’t have to. Then, in turn, your stomach won’t hurt when ingesting the mushrooms!
Lemon Tekking Theories
That is only one theory, however — there are many mushroom lovers who believe that lemon tekking goes even further than this. This group thinks that the citric acid not only breaks down the cell walls of the mushrooms but physically changes the compound of the mushrooms.
Confusing? I know. But stick with me! The psychoactive part of mushrooms that gives us the high is called psilocybin. Psilocybin is kind of like the umbrella psychoactive drug term for mushrooms.
Within this umbrella, there are a few notable drugs or compounds. First is the prodrug psilocin, think of psilocin as psilocybins’ nurse. The nurse is always in the shadow of the doctor but does equally difficult and important work but isn’t given the same recognition.
We hope that can help create a better visual for you! There are also baeocystin and norbaeocystin. Both of these alkaloid compounds all fall within the umbrella of psilocybin.
Now, this lemon tekking theory is that the citrus acids convert the psilocybin into psilocin. This is a process that typically happens when your stomach acid is working to break down the cell walls of mushrooms. As with our first theory, there isn’t a certain study or base of research to prove or disprove this theory. Without scientific evidence, there is no way to be 100% certain about any of these theories. It’s still quite fun to read about though.
The Psilocybin Mushroom Bible
The holy grail of all mushroom theories and discussions is recorded in the novel The Psilocybin Mushroom Bible co-authored by Virginia Haze and Dr. K Mandrake Ph.D.
Within the covers of the ‘bible’, the reader will learn all about the growing, harvesting, and consuming processes. There is an entire section dedicated to Lemon Tekking and their theories behind this process. You can find this book on Amazon and other online retailers if you want to learn more about mushrooms. It can be a great resource for those looking to start growing and harvesting their own mushrooms!
Lemon Tek and Nausea
Arguably the biggest benefit for many tripsters is the advantage of reduced nausea during the come-up for your trip. Although a lot of the ‘science’ we are talking about today is theoretical and unproven, there is one part that makes total sense. Lemon tekking is undoubtedly a great way to reduce nausea because it skips the step that causes an upset stomach, consuming raw mushrooms!
Of course, you aren’t pan-frying your mushrooms and eating them. By soaking them in lemon juice you are still cooking them, similarly to cooking raw shrimp and fish in lime. The process works by breaking down the cell walls of mushrooms and releasing some of their magic.
The magical compounds of mushrooms are psilocybin, baeocystin, norbaeocystin, and our favorite nurse— psilocin. When lemon tekking the citric acid will work to break down the walls of the mushrooms and bring all of the magical compounds to light! All four of these chemical compounds work in tandem with one another. Their result is our wonderful trips!
We are going to review some pro tips for nausea and other common reactions such as acid reflux and GI problems. Those who have sensitive stomachs and pre-existing acid reflux issues may still experience these symptoms even when lemon tekking. The biggest advice we have to offer is to fast before your trip and ensure you are healthy. Within the days leading up to your trip ensure you’re staying fully hydrated and active. Avoiding alcohol is also an important tip because it causes dehydration when recovering from a day of drinking.
If you decide to fast before taking your mushrooms, be careful. Taking mushrooms on an empty stomach can strengthen the psychoactive properties and the trip could be much more intense.
If you are relatively new to the mushroom world or even the lemon tekking world it can take some time to find a good dosage for you. Starting with smaller doses and gauging how your body feels is a great starting point.
Lemon Tek Trip Duration
The duration of your trip may be much shorter if you are lemon tekking instead of eating the mushrooms raw. A typical come-up time is anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes depending on the person and the amount of food consumed. Following with your peak—when the side effects of the mushrooms are at their most intense. The peak typically happens about 3 hours into the trip and the come-down will take another few hours. The overall experience of eating mushrooms raw lasts about 6 to 8 hours for the effects to fully wear off.
While lemon tekking all of these times are sped up tremendously. The come-up can begin about 15-45 minutes after consuming the juice concentrate. Your peak may start about an hour to an hour and a half after this. As far as the total trip length, you can expect it to be anywhere from 4-6 hours in total.
Some online reports and surveys show mixed feelings about this—some enjoy feeling the effects right away while others want a longer trip. If you have tripped mushrooms before you know what it means when said the trip comes in ‘waves’. Meaning sometimes the visuals and bodily effects are stronger compared to other times. Reportedly the lemon tekking can reduce the waves a create more of a consistent balance between the two. Since the overall trip is shorter when tekking the effects seem to stop abruptly rather than slowly over time.
If this is your first time taking mushrooms or you don’t consider yourself an advanced tripster it can be beneficial to familiarize yourself with the overall journey. Understanding your bodies’ reaction and what each stage feels like can be helpful to gain the most from each trip. Tekking will create a more intense experience from the beginning and might not be the best option for any newbies.
Lemon Tek Tea
Mushroom tea is a great way to ingest mushrooms. A lot of tripsters turn to tea because of its soothing properties and satisfying taste. However, you can combine lemon tekking with your favorite tea for an extra amount of goodness! If you remember the steps we reviewed together at the beginning of the article, you grind up your mushrooms and allow them to soak for about 15 minutes. This is where you switch up the process!
Instead of taking this concoction as a shot, drain the mushroom particles out of the lemon juice. Since the mushroom is ground up, an effective tool to use is a cheesecloth or a few coffee filters. Please read this next line to avoid a rookie mistake— you’re keeping the juice, not the mushrooms! Okay, now read it again. Now—we can move forward.
At this point, you should have a glass of lemon (or lime) juice. Pour your juice into a cup of hot tea, not boiling tea! Some personal favorites are green tea with your lemon concoction with a little bit of honey. Drinking tea can help soothe your stomach if you have a particularly sensitive digestion system. Other mushroom lovers have reported their favorite way to ingest mushrooms with the lemon tekking process is to make lemonade. Instead of hot tea, you can stir your lemon concoction with cold water and some natural sweeteners.
Lemon Tek— But with Other Fruits
We have been talking about lemons for a while, for obvious reasons, but can tekking extend beyond just your average lemons? If you don’t have lemons at your disposal you can also use limes! Limes also have a pH level of 2-2.6. The key is to remember the citrus pH levels need to mimic your stomach acid in order to break down the mushrooms.
Other than lemon and lime it can be difficult to find another citrus fruit that falls in the category of desired pH levels. An old wise tale is that oranges work to break down the mushrooms similar to lemons and limes. This is another misconception, oranges contain a pH level of 3.2-4.3. This goes beyond the threshold of our stomach acid and won’t create the same effects. Similar to oranges are the acidic levels found in pineapple. Although pineapple is quite delicious, after eating too much of it you can feel the effects inside your mouth. The acidity is quite high in pineapple, ranging from 3.2-4.0.
To review, yes you can use lemon and limes but not pineapples or oranges. After a deeper dive, I have found that grapefruits contain a pH level of 3.0-3.75. Although this is on the higher side of natural stomach acidity (1.5-3.5), there is still some potential there! If none of these are striking your fancy, don’t worry! Pomegranates contain a pH level of 2.9-3.2.
Just remember the golden rule, the acidity needs to mimic your stomach and keep the pH levels under 3.5!
Lemon Tek Guide
Before we wrap up this article we will review the steps to lemon tekking one more time. Although we did touch upon the process at the beginning—we can take a deeper dive into each part of the task. A quick reminder too, since you aren’t simply eating the mushrooms there will be mushroom particles leftover so ensure they are disposed of smartly and safely!
- Measure the amount of mushrooms you will be taking (remember a lower dose is recommended).
- Grind up the mushrooms in a cannabis or coffee grinder.
- Pour lemon or lime juice over the top of the powdered mushrooms in a shot glass.
- Allow the mushrooms and juice to fuse for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Drink as a shot and enjoy your trip!
- If making tea instead, drain the mushroom particles from the juice and add the juice to a cup of your favorite tea instead!
What Lemon Tek Feels Like
If you’re still hesitant after reading this article about what lemon tekking actually feels like, you can find personal stories from users all over the world. Some of these posts are over a decade old and can give amazing insight into how these people have perfected their tekking over time. Although drugs will affect everyone differently it can be helpful to understand others’ experiences prior to your own.
Some bloggers swear to the fact lemon tekking creates a stronger and more intense experience overall. Most claim it can intensify by 2 or 3 times their normal encounter with mushrooms. Similarly, some people report that their trip overall is more ‘profound’ and gives more insight into their mindset. The visuals and peak of their trip last longer and are more intense.
If this worries you in any way or creates anxiety, remember you can take about half of the mushrooms. If you’re typically taking an eighth of mushrooms (3.5 grams), next time try 1.5 or 2 grams. Lemon tekking could become a great way to save money too!
On the other hand, some bloggers dislike tekking because of the shorter come-up time. They claim to never feel fully adjusted to the altered state of mind and body and feel the whole trip is ruined because of this. If you find yourself enjoying a slower come-up process and a more drawn-out trip, it can be difficult to enjoy the rapid succession of events when lemon tekking. If you are planning to take an entire day to enjoy the mushrooms with your friends, it can be beneficial to simply consume the mushrooms raw.
Whether you’re a first-time user or an experienced tripster, it can be exciting to find new and different ways to enjoy mushrooms. If you are considering lemon tekking for the first time remember—use citrus that mirrors the pH level of your stomach, lower your dosage, and be prepared to have a different trip than you’re used to!
